Having a comfortable overnight journey to Kollur, we visited the temple of Mookambike. We had our breakfast & packed our food for the day’s trek. It is about 5kms from the temple the forest road starts.
Our trek began with the attack of leech at the entry gate itself. It is about 4.5kms from the gate to the waterfalls. Tall trees, dense vegetation blocked all the sunlight entering into the ground. The ground was very moist, providing excellent conditions for the leeches. The terrain uphill was very tough and slippery. The same road leads to Kodachadri peak. After about 4kms we managed to locate a small walkway towards left side leading to the waterfall. But there were no board or any indication mentioning about this.
Struggling across the bushes, hearing the sound we reached the falls. We could only see the top portion of the fall. We carefully crossed the river and went up the rocks. The enchanting view of the fall was amazing. We could not suppress our joys. We jumped, screamed & our joy knew no bounds. We explored across all our reach to get the possible view of the waterfall. It was a nature created pond for swimming. We swam in the chilled waters of the river sowparnika. As the rocks were very slippery, we didn’t go too far.
Tired of great experience, we had our lunch. We played in the shallow waters and enjoyed a lot. The clouds were getting ready for their evening work. The roar cautioned us to get back early. So, we packed up and returned back. The journey return was not as tough as we had in the morning. We reached the forest gate in the evening. To our shock we found plenty of leeches on our legs. They had a great feast and all our socks, pants were red-coloured.
We walked along the highway to the temple. We boarded the last bus from kollur to kundapur. We had our dinner there & we were back to Bangalore the next day morning.
